Bringing your entertainment group to the U.S. for a tour, performance series, or production? The P1 visa—specifically the P-1B category—was designed for internationally recognized entertainment groups traveling together for a shared purpose. Whether you're a rock band, a dance company, or a production crew, understanding the requirements and planning ahead are key to success.
The P1B visa allows entire entertainment groups to apply under a single petition, streamlining the process. To qualify, the group must:
Be internationally recognized for outstanding achievements,
Have been established for at least one year,
And show that at least 75% of members have been part of the group for a minimum of 12 months.
In cases where individuals in the group are essential but not performers—such as technical crew, choreographers, or film staff—the O-2 visa may be used in conjunction with an O-1B visa holder. This allows non-performing support personnel with critical expertise to accompany lead talent with extraordinary ability in the arts, film, or television.
The visa process begins with filing Form I-129 to USCIS, supported by contracts, performance itineraries, and proof of recognition (such as awards, media coverage, or record sales). Once approved, each group member must:
Complete the DS-160 Nonimmigrant Visa Application,
Pay the visa fee,
Schedule and attend an interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
Group scheduling is often the most technically challenging part—especially when coordinating multiple appointments across different cities or countries. This is where experienced legal support makes a real difference.
